No (CC) - Describes and portrays the geography and history of this forest, over 3,500,000 acres in extent when the first known immigrants, the Alibamu and Koasati Indians, arrived in the 1790's; highlights the forest fringe white pioneers of the 1820's, the deeper forest settlers of the 1830's, and subsequent development of river transport, the first significant Texas cattle ranching industry, health resort facilities of Sour Lake Springs, railroads followed by intensive lumber cutting, and the oil boom towns of the 20th century, heralded when Spindletop blew in at nearby Beaumont in 1901.
